Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) customers will be able to enjoy a wider choice of bespoke paints in the future, as the company plans to expand its services. The luxury car manufacturer said the move was made in response to client demand.
Despite a very mixed reaction to the launch of the new electrical concept Type 00 car, the company is looking to expand its facilities at bases in Castle Bromwich in the West Midlands, and also in Nitra, Slovakia. The most affluent clients will be able to use the upgraded paint service to colour match their vehicles to private jets or yachts.
Jamal Hameedi, director of special vehicle operations at JLR., told BBC News: “Range Rover clients are increasingly choosing to tailor their vehicles with more exclusive bespoke and elevated palette paints. By increasing our capacity we can satisfy the demand growth from our Range Rover clients and… clients of our other brands.”
Land Rovers and Range Rovers have certainly come a long way since their humble beginnings as farm and wartime utility vehicles that were designed to tackle tough terrains. Luxury was not definitely high on the agenda of the original design team, and choice of colours was limited to military greens, Marine blues, or RAF grey blue.
However, during the 1980s and 90s, the models underwent a series of makeovers and relaunches, and now they are very much high status vehicles. Although still designed to handle extreme environments, many of these modern 4x4s are never driven off-road, but are prized for their power, handling and luxurious spacious interiors.
Despite the glamorous makeover, a hardcore fanbase of early Land Rover models exists, who often lovingly restore these trusty workhorses with the help of 4×4 vehicle spare parts.
