Upcoming 4×4 Greenlane Events In The UK This Spring & Summer

If you love to take your 4×4 on off-road adventures, or just enjoy being immersed in the whole utility vehicle scene, there’s plenty to see and do in the UK during spring and summer. Here are some suggestions for greenlane events to put in your diary for 2025.

What is greenlaning?

Greenlaning involves navigating the unclassified county roads (also called Byways Open to All Traffic, or BOATs). These roads are often unsurfaced and overgrown country lanes that can be found throughout the UK. Some may be impassable for vehicles, but there are many established greenlane routes such as the above that are a fun challenge for 4×4 vehicles.

Expect some mud and uneven terrain, and be prepared to accept a few bumps and scratches to the bodywork. Make sure you pack recovery gear such as tow ropes in case the worst happens, and that you have the appropriate type of tyres for the terrain. If you need any UK 4×4 spare parts to set up your vehicle, check out our website.

Remember that the countryside and other users should always be respected, and you should not cause any damage or interference with wildlife.

On/Off Road Greenlane Navigational Fun Day, 11 May

This event is run by Protrax Overland Adventures, and the starting point is Rockingham Castle. The challenging and enjoyable green lane trails run through the Welland Valley to a dedicated 4×4 site near Stamford.

Wiltshire Weekend Tour, 17-18 May

This weekend event begins in Sixpenny Handley, and winds through ancient droving routes through south Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire, finishing at the iconic Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain. The area is known for its rolling downs and Hardyesque countryside, and time spent driving on tarmac is kept to a minimum.

Tynedale, 24 May

This greenlaning route will take you around the beautiful and remote borders landscape near Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland and Cumbria. Along the route you will pass sites of historic interest such as Roman fortresses and the remains of army camps.

There are excellent views along the way, and a satisfying mixture of terrain to navigate, from rocky hillsides to open farmland. The starting point is Hartside Top, and the finishing point is Hexham.

Off The Beaten Track 4×4 Weekenders

Off The Beaten Track 4×4 are a small family-run business who specialise in self-driven green laning days, as well as overland tours to Europe. They have a few spaces left for greenlaning weekend events throughout May and June, which take place across the Yorkshire Dales, East Yorkshire, and the North York Moors.

Looking further ahead, there are planned greenlaning weekends in the Lake District, Norfolk, the Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland between July and October 2025.
