Whether you’re a car enthusiast or are on the lookout for a new vehicle in 2023, we’ve looked at the top 4x4s of the year so you can find out which large, family-sized motor is among the favourites over the next 12 months.
- Land Rover Defender
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Land Rover Defender is listed as one of the best 4x4s of 2023.
Car Wow says: “Updating an iconic model is always tough, but Land Rover has done brilliantly with the new Defender.”
It notes the vehicle has both impressive off-road features and luxury tech gadgets in the cabin, making this a “formidable 4×4”.
The Defender is also likely to be extremely popular this year, after being seen frequently during 2022 at several Royal functions, with the Windsors famously being big fans of Land Rover. In fact, a modified Land Rover was even used as a hearse to carry the late Queen’s coffin to her resting place in Windsor.
- Nissan X-Trail
Another top pick is the new Nissan X-Trail, which has been given the accolade of 4×4 Magazine’s ‘4×4 of the Year for 2023’.
Editor of the publication Alan Kidd said: “It’s capable, classy, entertaining and, with its seven-seat layout, hugely practical. Whether you want it for work or play, it’s right there, right on the money. A good SUV is meant to be good at everything: the new X-Trail is great at everything, and it’s a great SUV.”
- Toyota Land Cruiser
For those who love off-roading, the Toyota Land Cruiser is a great option, according to Car Wow. It notes its “excellent build quality and reliability”, which means the vehicle can handle any drive “no matter the terrain”.
